Will Arrive Here Tomorrow at 5:15. Left Washington Monday for San Antonio, Texas for the Reunion of the Rough Riders.Receives a Continual Ovation Enroute. Will Rest Sunday and Begin the Hunt Monday. All arrangements for the entertainment of President Roosevelt, who is to arrive tomorrow afternoon for his hunt in the Big Pasture, have now been completed. Major J.E. Muchert, of Sherman, Texas, who was selected by Col. Lyons, to complete the details for the entertainment of the President, arrived Monday morning. With the exception of Roosevelt's car of camp equipage which arrived nearly two weeks ago, this was the first definite news that the public had of the President's coming nearly a fortnight ago, keep it secret as directed, that it was published broadcast all over the country before it was generally known here. Major Muchert in company with C.B. McHugh, left Monday morning for the Big Pasture, beginning four miles east of here, to select a suitable camp. A number of wolves and lobos were seen in the breaks of this 480,000 acre reservation. An appropriate site for a camp was found on Deep Red creek, about twelve miles east of town. A troop of cavalrymen, form Fort Sill, arrived at the designated spot at the time agreed upon that day. These soldiers are assigned the duty of keeping out all trespassers in order that the hunt may be undisturbed. That same afternoon five huge loads of camp equipage from Roosevelt's car, were taken out. Ample supplies have since been hauled out in government wagons. Yesterday morning a pack of hounds belonging to Col. Lyons, arrived by express from Sherman, and thirteen more arrived this morning from Amarillo, to take part in the chase. These will be augmented by a score for more of trained dogs belonging to J. R. Abernathy, of this place. Two colored porters arrived yesterday and will look after the cots. A colored cook, employed by the general manager of Cotton Belt system, arrived this morning from St. Louis and will do the cooking. The Presidents car will arrive here at 5:15 tomorrow afternoon. After a brief speech by Roosevelt, the party will leave in carriages and go directly to the camp, accompanied by the following who will compose the hunting party. His private doctor of Washington; Col. Cecil A. Lyons, Sherman; Major J.E. Muchert, Sherman; Sloan Simpson, Electra; Guy Waggoner, Vernon; Tom Burnett, Wichita Falls; C.B. McHugh, Frederick; J.R. Abernathy, Frederick. Originally printed on Friday, April 7, 1905 in the Frederick Enterprise. |
